Bonded NdFeB magnets are manufactured by blending isotropic NdFeB magnetic powder with plastic binders (such as epoxy, nylon, or PPS) and then forming them via compression molding or injection molding. This process allows for extremely complex shapes, thin walls, and precise tolerances (often within ±0.02 mm) straight out of the mold, removing the need for grinding. Sintered NdFeB magnets are made by pressing alloy powder and then heating it in a sintering furnace. While sintered magnets offer higher magnetic strength (maximum energy product BH max), they are fragile, limited in shape complexity, and require expensive diamond grinding to achieve precise tolerances.
Neodymium magnets contain iron, making them prone to oxidation in high-humidity areas. To prevent this, we apply protective coatings. For bonded NdFeB, we offer epoxy coatings applied via electrophoresis, which seal the magnet completely. For sintered NdFeB, we offer multi-layer nickel-copper-nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni), zinc (Zn), or organic epoxy coatings. For extreme coastal conditions, we recommend custom rubber-coated or plastic-injected enclosures to prevent moisture penetration.
The maximum operating temperature of bonded NdFeB depends on the type of binder resin used. Standard epoxy-bonded magnets operate reliably at temperatures up to 120°C. For high-temperature applications, such as automotive under-hood components or heavy-duty industrial electric motors, we use polyamide or PPS binders combined with high-coercivity NdFeB powders. This increases the thermal limit to 150°C or even 180°C, preventing thermal demagnetization.
Yes. Since bonded NdFeB utilizes isotropic powder, the magnetic particles are oriented randomly. This allows us to magnetize the finished piece in any direction. We design and build custom magnetization fixtures in-house to produce complex profiles.
